Feet Up

This weekend has mainly been about the sofa, our PJs and the TV.
Strictly Come Dancing & X-Factor signify the official end of summer and winter on its way!

ET

Given Laurens sensitive disposition I should of known that yesterday's film choice would of resulted in an emotional roller coaster...that's what ET does to you!
One of my earliest memories is of going to watch ET at the cinema with my mum and bawling my eyes out! Everyone was looking and my mum kept on trying to shush me but there was no holding me back - I was 4 at the time!
How is she going to cope when I introduce her to Batteries not Included? Or Lassie? Or The Incredible Journey? Oh lord.....

Breakfast

This weeks gallery theme is breakfast.

Muesli, porridge, chocolate cheerios, cheerios, special flakes, weetabix, coco pops, shreddies and special k.

It's safe to say we love cereal in this house.

I'm not sure if this a lot of cereal to have or about average for a family of 4 but I do know that visitors always comment on how much we have!

Lauren & Joe are just like me - they wake up hungry! They both have 2 bowls (small ones!) every morning (the chocolate ones are weekend treats only!) and would probably have a third if I let them! I don't by the way...

I've also got a bit of an addiction to special k (not the healthiest I know!) and can easily eat 2 bowls a day.

Cereal rocks. Fact.

Back to school

Back to school theme over at the gallery this week.
I've decided to use this post as an opportunity to post piccies of my babies on their first day on each new year. I can't quite lay my hands on Lauren's previous 3 year '1st day' photos so we are starting here - Day 1 of Year 3 & Joes 1st day in Reception!

Summer Holibobs

End of an Era

Today was Joes last day at nursery.
It was a very sad day saying goodbye to all the ladies who have looked after my babies for the past six & a half years & I was incredibly emotional went I went round to each of the rooms to give them all a hug!
Now is the start of a new chapter in all our lives & whilst I am excited about what the future may bring there's a teensy part of me that sad about closing this chapter on our lives....

When I Grow Up

Lauren; When I grow up I want to be a policewoman. Oh and I want to be Hello Kitty.

Joe: I want to be Spiderman.

I'll ask them both again in 5 years and see what the answer is then....

Sport

This weeks gallery theme is Sport.
I knew exactly which photos to use! My husband is a complete & utter sporting nut, aside from horse racing, he will pretty much watch anything. You name it, he'll watch it - Rugby, swimming, running, tennis, boxing, darts, american football, basketball, snooker, the list goes on & on (and I can't think of any others) but his major passions are football (Spurs to be precise) and cricket. I asked him once what he would choose if he had to pick between cricket & Spurs and he couldn't answer!
An average day will see him checking the BBC sports pages at least 15 times and when he is home sky sports is on most of the time (apart from when I get control of the remote!) weekends tend to revolve around whichever major football/cricket/major sporting event is on.
Sadly, he has problems with his hips & it would be dangerous for him to play any sport. I suppose I should be grateful that he doesn't play otherwise I'd never see him but I know how sad this makes him and I wish he was able to indulge in his passion.
Even though I am not a sporting nut (unfortunatly for him) he regularly comes home from watching something and proceeds to give me a blow by blow account including words such as 'offside' 'penalty' and 'twenty for over' none of which mean diddly squat to me!
He was fortunate to get tickets for 4 Olympic events and was like a kid at Christmas on Monday - the day before the 1st event! I swear he wasn't this excited when I announced both my pregnancies!
He is desperate for the kids to follow in his love! Lauren is proving to be an ace swimmer & we have high hopes for Joes future as a gymnast (he hasn't actually started classes yet but he's got strong arms/body & is very bendy so we are living in hope!)
Having been someone who has always disliked sport & always regretting never finding a big passion for an event that can bond the whole family i really do hope the kids find a sport they love & that we can all enjoy!
Failing that I suppose I better start learning about the off-side rule....

Movies

This weeks gallery theme is 'Movies.'
Lauren is now at the age where she is interested in films with 'real' people in i.e. not cartoons ;-)
Admittedly they are still children's films eg Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Marmaduke etc but at the beginning of this year we both watched Grease and she LOVED it!
I had a battle of conscience as to wether she was too young for it but fortunately some of the more 'adult' content went over her head & she was more interested in the singing & dancing. A few weeks ago her close friend Lou had a Grease themed birthday party and we dressed Lauren up in some 60s finery!

Four go Gorilla Hunting

This weeks gallery theme is 'Street Art.'
In the summer of 2011 Bristol Zoo celebrated it's 125th anniversary by placing 60 life size gorilla statues all over Bristol...and Bristol went mad for them!
We had some great (free!) days out hunting for gorillas - the kids wanted to have their picture taken with all of them. The only one we didn't manage was Tourist Gorilla - he was based at Birmingham coach station (to encourage people to visit Bristol!)
We had such fun doing it and the kids still talk about them! The gorillas were auctioned off afterwards for charity but there are still a couple dotted around the city - the kids always shout 'Gorilla!' whenever they see one!
My favourite?
Spiderman Gorilla!

At War

Right now my house feels like war and peace. Without the peace.

The kids are constantly at war with one another - they wind each other up, they whine, they bicker, they tell tales about each other, they generally do not get on WHATSOEVER. And quite frankly I'm exhausted by it all.

I seem to spend what precious time I do have with the children counting to 10, telling them off, breaking up arguments, sending them to the naughty steps, giving them warning....I'm sure you get the picture.

Remember those parents you used to see on Super Nanny who had no control over their kids? Who used to shout at them to stop shouting?

Yep...I've morphed into one of them and I just don't know what to do :(

I feel like I'm partly to blame...'oh mummy's never here, she's always working, at least when I'm naughty she gives me attention.' 'If I didn't work so many hours I wouldn't be so irritable & short tempered all the time.'

Right now I feel like a bit of a failure as a mum and just I hope this moment of self pity passes me by very soon.....

Making Memories

A couple of weeks ago myself and 3 old uni friends had a fabulous weekend in the place where we met and sealed our friendship 15 years ago!
We had a fabulous time - lots of reminiscing, a whole lot of eating/drinking/laughing (all in equal measures!) and lots of memories made!
